What To Look For In A Rice Cooker

There are many different brands of rice cookers available on the market today. The hard part is not deciding that a rice cooker is a worthwhile investment. For people that eat rice, it is almost a necessity. The part that does require serious consideration however is what brand of rice cooker to buy. There are many different manufacturers, for example, Zojirushi, Aroma, Panasonic, Sanyo and Cuisinart. You may already know that the majority of these brands are Japanese manufacturers. It is a fact that the Japanese know how to build a good quality rice cooker. This is because rice has formed a major part of the Japanese diet for ages. When you combine this with their electronic know how it is only reasonable to expect that they know how to build the best rice cookers. This is not to belittle the other brands out there. They too have some plus points that make them worthy of consideration too.

What you will want to consider seriously before purchasing a rice cooker is exactly what you want to do with it as well as what the maximum amount of money you are willing to pay is. Some of the top of the range Japanese rice steamers are capable of a whole range of cooking options that may or may not be of interest to you. These include things like, making rice porridge, which is a popular food that they give to babies, as well as making rice with special beans in it. However if all you really want to do is cook delicious white rice then such a fancy model may not be necessary. It must be remembered that the top of the line Japanese rice cookers are the most expensive models that you can buy. Cheaper options include those made in other countries. So if price is a major factor then you may want to go for one of the cheaper kinds available on the market today.

Personally I think that going for the best of both worlds is possible and in my case was the best option. Rather than buying the most expensive Japanese rice cooker that I could find I went for the cheapest Zojirushi rice cooker. This is because they have the best reputation amongst people in the know. At the same time I do not need all the fancy functionality as all I like to do is cook plain rice. This is something it excels at.
